Since October, 2010, during three six-month seasons, PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) has provided shelter to 178 different individuals. In the third season, PADS provided 1043 "overnight stays" to homeless people in the county. As of June, 2013, there were 270 children, K-12, in Kendall County public schools who were registered as homeless in the last school year. In the third season, 2012-2013, PADS provided 1,143 "overnight stays" and 3129 meals. Some guests stayed just a night or two, others stayed for a few weeks, and some stayed for six months.
Needless to say, there is a tremendous need to provide temporary shelter for Kendall County residents. While OPC does not serve as a shelter site, we do provide volunteers to help staff the various shelter sites in Kendall County.
