Tom Sharpe

stephanie sneller

Tom Sharpe feels blessed to be a part of OPC.

Aside from his position at OPC as a worship musician and leader, Tom is the drummer for the Grammy Award winning group Mannheim Steamroller, the number one selling Christmas artist of all time. Tom tours in the months of November and December, filling arenas and theaters nation wide, spreading the joy and tradition of the Christmas season.

Along with his heavy tour schedule, Tom is an internationally recognized, critically acclaimed composer, and the creator of his own group, the Tom Sharpe Ensemble, which performs his work with him in theaters and performing arts centers locally and nationally.

His original compositions have won many awards, including the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the Broadjam World Music
Contest. He has been a featured performer in the Millennium Park series “Great Performers of Illinois” and the PBS special “Arts
Across Illinois” to name a few.

Tom was the drummer for Dennis DeYoung from the famed rock group STYX for 8 years before DeYoung’s retirement. Tom holds
firm on his stance that even though STYX hits such as “Come Sail Away” and The Grand Illusion” are classic rock gems, “Mr.
Roboto” is not as bad as its reputation, and was a blast to play live!

Tom is an alumni of the Interlochen Arts Academy, and holds the degrees Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from DePaul
University, He is a sought-out clinician and artist in residence at schools from university to elementary level. Tom also has expanded his musical endeavors to include sound healing therapy at yoga centers and other community gatherings.

Along with his public appearances, Tom enjoys a small private teaching practice and is dedicated to enriching the lives of children. He led the senior high youth group at OPC during a 2 year transition period in the height of the 2020 pandemic, and can also be found giving the children’s sermon on Sunday morning. He was part of the Kids Hope USA program through OPC before moving on to becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children in Kendall County.

Tom can frequently be seen running miles along the Fox River, and is an active member of the community. He is a proud Detroit
native and roots unwaveringly for his Detroit sports teams. He is honored to have received a lifetime achievement award from his hometown.

Tom and his daughter reside together in Oswego.
